When a client approached SEMM Geoservices with a challenge involving old wells installed over 40 years ago, we were immediately intrigued. Their goal was to assess the condition of the wells and, if possible, quantify the corrosion of the metal casing to determine whether costly remediation was necessary.
Our initial response was straightforward—we could measure the internal diameter and estimate corrosion. However, the true challenge lay in detecting corrosion both inside and outside the well casing, a task traditionally requiring expensive oil industry-standard methods.
Determined to find a more efficient and cost-effective solution, SEMM collaborated with one of our trusted suppliers to adapt Acoustic Televiewer technology for this specific application. By integrating multiple parameters, we successfully evaluated the casing’s condition and uncovered valuable insights.
Our innovative approach revealed previously unknown areas where cement repairs and natural processes had narrowed the well. We also identified sections where the pipe appeared to have been perforated and cemented, providing crucial information for our client’s decision-making.
Building on this success, we continue to refine our methodology, ensuring its reliability across diverse borehole conditions. This project exemplifies SEMM Geoservices’ commitment to innovation, collaboration, and delivering cost-effective, high-quality solutions that empower our clients to make informed decisions.
